While there, Ben took Jenny for a picnic in an abandoned castle. At some point during their date, Ben asked his lady love to marry him. According to her, she screamed YES!!!!

Jenny Slate is Deeply In Love

Following a seriously difficult breakup in 2018, Jenny finally recognized her penchant for unhealthy relationships. She shared with Christene Barberich that she spent years allowing the men in her life to define her. (source) This epiphany led to a period of self-discovery in which she finally came to trust herself. This, of course, opened her up to find true love with a man who accepts her in all her fullness. Now, she believes she "...can have a full life...and feel beauty in in so many ways." (source) At the time she shared this deep and personal revelation, she and Ben had been dating for around nine months. She described herself as "deeply in love" with Ben, sharing that she had relocated to Massachusetts to share her life with him.

Cuttyhunk Island

The previous January, Jenny Slate announced their relationship to the world by inviting Ben to attend the Sundance Film Festival with her. After that, she kept their relationship out of the public eye, for the most part. In June, she shared a poignant photo of herself with Ben. Captioned simply, Cuttyhunk, Massachusetts. Staring off into the distance, quietly contemplating the beauty surrounding them, arms around each other. Peace, contentment, safety, security, love. In fact, Cuttyhunk Island represents so much for Ben Shattuck. It lies off the coast of his home in Westport, Massachusetts. Here, Ben founded the Cuttyhunk Island Writer's and Artist's Residency program. Several times a year, writers and artists enjoy the opportunity to live with, work alongside, and learn from the most accomplished writers and artists in the country. As a writer and artist himself, Ben immerses himself in words and images. In addition to running the residency program, he also works as lead curator for his mother's art gallery in Westport.

The Dedee Shattuck Gallery

The Dedee Shattuck Gallery showcases contemporary art with an emphasis on the environment. Indeed, Ben's mom dedicates much of her free time to conservation and ecosystem preservation. Not surprisingly, Ben adopted similar views on the importance of caring for the environment. As a writer and a painter, he dedicates much of his creative energy toward drawing attention to nature and the peril facing the earth. Indeed, on his artist's website he offers selections from several of his collections, each of which highlights a specific environmental crisis. THE OCEANS draws attention to diminishing fish populations. Meanwhile, END OF THE PRAIRIE mourns the destruction of Iowa's tall-grass prairies in lieu of big-industry farming. Ben notes that, to date, 98.98% of Iowa's prairies have been converted to farm land. Of course, by eliminating the prairies, they eliminated the wildflowers, as well. He offers still life paintings of Iowa native wildflowers in a series of mourning portraits. Reading his words, viewing his art work, and seeing the marriage of both in his poignant descriptions of each of his paintings, I see a gentle, intelligent soul with much to offer his lady love. Jenny Slate is a lucky girl just to be able to share conversation with such an intelligent, gentle human being. But then he goes and tells the world she has a soul the color of sky! Oh, and he gives her a blue sapphire engagement ring. I have to say, I may have fallen a little bit in love just writing this article!

A Soul the Color of Sky

In a photo posted on their Instagram pages from the day of their engagement, Jenny stands in front of an ancient door painted a beautiful sky blue. Jenny told the world that with Ben she feels "happy and free." Ben told the world that Jenny's beautiful soul is sky blue. Jenny says Ben is the "kindest and brightest." Both of them express a deep gratitude for such an incredible opportunity to know and love each other. In the final photo Jenny shared, she shows the world her ring finger. On it she wears a beautiful blue sapphire and diamond halo engagement ring. Perhaps it's a beautiful sapphire ring . The yellow gold band matches perfectly with her beautiful gold hoop earrings. Her smile shines with happiness and maybe a little bit of incredulity, as well. Perhaps she's still pinching herself today! Congratulations to the beautiful and happy couple! ~Angela Magnotti Andrews
