Sholdt Design, A Seattle Jeweler

Fashioned from palladium, this ring is a handsome choice.   Sholdt means Seattle jewelry. It means a history dedicated to excellence and mastery, as well as some of the finest craftsmanship in the northwest. It all began in 1935, when Pike Place Market featured live cattle for sale and jewelry firms looked outside their own doors for repairs.

1935 - Milton Sholdt

In 1935, a young man named Milton Sholdt purchased a small jewelry repair shop. In his early years, the fun-loving patron focused his efforts on working for local jewelry retailers. His efforts paid off, and his company's reputation grew. So did his family. His children grew and ventured out on their own. In fact, his oldest son, Milton Jr., became a carpenter. However, in 1963, Milton Jr. gave up carpentry and set his intention on building his family's jewelry repair shop into the preeminent repair shop in Seattle.

1963 - Milton Sholdt, Jr.

Together with his wife, Patricia, Milton Jr. took over as caretaker of the family business. For two decades, he fulfilled his life's determination to provide Seattle jewelers with the highest quality in repair work. By the time he sold the company to his sons, Brian and Dusty, Sholdt earned its reputation as the finest jewelry repair shop in Seattle. In addition to passing the baton of the family business, Milton Jr. also offered his sons their grandfather's original safe. Hand painted in gold with his name, Milton H. Sholdt, the antique safe stands to this day in the shop. Inside it Milton Sr. placed a small combination lock box. To this day, no one in the family knows what's inside the lock box. Someone lost the combination years ago. Although surely curious, the family resisted the urge to ruin the safe by cracking it open. "Why spoil the mystery now?" his great-granddaughter Kalee asks. "It's part of my family's story."

1980s - Brian and Dusty Sholdt

During the 1980s, Seattle jewelers began making their repairs in house. As a result, Brian and Dusty saw fit to create a custom line of jewelry, which they called Rain City Rings. Brian oversaw the design side, while Dusty oversaw manufacture and operations. Eventually, they changed the name of their custom line to its eponymous Sholdt. The brothers carried the line faithfully into the new millennium, maintaining their father's practice of hiring only the finest craftsmen. Furthermore, they resisted the urging of others to expand their brand internationally. Instead, they vowed to keep production in Seattle. In 2014, the brothers turned over the reigns to the fourth generation.

2014 - Kalee Sholdt

Although Kalee grew up in the business, she never imagined running Sholdt as an adult. She remembers vividly her grandfather offering her and her siblings coins to roll out at the mill and pumping up old wax molds to find the treasures among them. Taking the reins on the eve of Sholdts' 80th anniversary, Kalee felt confident to carry the business into the next season of its history. To this day, Kalee works with her faithful and furry mascot, Pearl, to run the day to day operations with pride. "I love what I do," she says. "I get to play with pretty things and help make people happy." When you buy Sholdt, you buy genuine Seattle craftsmanship. You buy into a history that includes a passion for excellence, values that place family and friends first, and the joy of mystery and mastery. Consider adding this Sholdt ring to your collection today and step into the story of one of Seattle's finest jewelers.
