Garnet occurs naturally in nearly every color of the rainbow and is the traditional birthstone of January. Garnet has a mohs hardness of 6.5-7.5, making the harder varieties durable and suitable for everyday wear. Common red garnet varieties are almandine, pyrope and the red-purple rhodolite garnet. Spessartine or spessartite is a vivid orange color while tsavorite and demantoid are valuable green garnet species. Garnets are naturally beautiful and require no treatments.
