Old European Cut Diamonds & Old Mine Cut

The Old European cut diamond or “Old Euro Cut” was the primary diamond shape used in the Art Deco Era. Old Mine cut diamonds or “Miner Cut” were used in Victorian and Edwardian Eras. There is some overlap between the periods when both antique diamond cuts coexisted. Transitional Cut diamonds were the common cut in the 1940's. Diamond cutting and technology advanced quickly then to the modern round brilliant cut. Many old cut heirloom diamonds and old family stones are often repurposed and set into modern styles. Antique diamonds regularly show warmth in color as many of the whiter old diamonds have been recut into modern round brilliants. Great features of the old cuts are that they tend to face up whiter than their modern counterparts of similar color and they also draw your eye into the stone.
