Nick: You can’t repeat the past.
Gatsby: You can’t repeat the past?
Nick: No.
Gatsby: Why of course you can. Of course you can.

Perhaps you really can’t recreate the past, but Baz Luhrman, Catherine Martin, and top executives at Tiffany & Co. have done their best to reinvent it with the pulse-pounding party scenes and the stunning jewelry featured in the newly released movie, The Great Gatsby.

“Catherine Martin and Baz Luhrman first came to Tiffany almost two years ago…with the assumption, based on the role that we played in New York at that time, that perhaps there would be something…they could discover that would inspire their work within the movie,” says Jon King, Executive Vice President of Tiffany & Co.

They were not disappointed. Tiffany & Co. generously released their extensive 1920s archives to the Hollywood pair, who partnered with Tiffany design teams to invent “things completely from scratch” {cited}.

If there wasn’t an appropriate piece in their archival inventory, which was the case for the pearl and diamond fan-shaped hat pin worn in one scene by actress Elizabeth Debicki (“Jordan Baker”), the teams set to work recreating pieces from actual Tiffany drawings from the 1920s.

This was the case for Daisy’s Savoy Headband and the pearl and diamond hand jewelry featured in the above photo. The headband features freshwater cultured pearls and round brilliant diamonds (totaling 25.04 carats) set in pristine platinum. The beautiful flower is detachable and can be worn as a brooch.

“I’ve never worn jewelry like the jewelry that we’re using from Tiffany’s….I had these rings that were attached to pearls that came around, and they were so delicate….You know that you’re wearing something very beautiful and something very valuable,” says Carey Mulligan. “I think it changes the way that you move and the way that you carry yourself” {cited}.

The partnership with Tiffany & Co. represents a toast to the Spirit of the 20s, with its modernity, its elegance, its over-the-top resplendence. Tiffany Diamonds continue to effuse the alluring sophistication that exemplifies the glamorous American scene. Truly, this writer can’t imagine The Great Gatsby without the dazzle of Tiffany jewels.

A naturally-rendered golden stem featuring three segments bears a large bearded iris bloom heavy with Montana sapphires and diamonds. Three upright sepals (petals) and three falls (drooping petals) made of oxidized silver are encrusted with Montana sapphires bearing gold and diamond veins. Three delicate and naturalistic leaves, mounted in gold frames with demantoid garnets set in a jour style, spring from golden buds along the flower’s etched stem.

Designed for Tiffany & Co. by G. Paulding Farnham for the Paris Exhibition Universelle of 1900, this exquisite antique designer brooch is one of 200 objects of decorative art that comprise the grand touring exhibition called Inventing the Modern World: Decorative Arts at the World’s Fairs, 1851-1939.

This astonishing exhibition is a labor of love undertaken by Ms. Catherine Futter (Curator of Decorative Arts at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art) and Mr. Jason Busch (Chief Curator at the Carnegie Museum of Art). For four years they examined thousands of decorative arts pieces which were exhibited at one or more of the World’s Fairs between the years 1851 and 1939.

After countless hours of extensive research and study, the touring exhibition debuted at Ms. Futter’s venue, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO, on April 14, 2012, followed by a second showing at Mr. Busch’s institution, the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, which opened on October 13, 2012. From there, curators and preparators meticulously packed every object for shipment to New Orleans, where the museum staff at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) has skillfully unpacked and displayed each object to supreme perfection for tonight’s grand opening event. Visitors can stop by and see the 200 stunning pieces, including the Iris Corsage Ornament pictured abovewhich together represent the “pinnacle of science and artistic ingenuity” until 9pm EST tonight {cited}.

Ms. Futter lauds the Iris Corsage Ornament as one of the most luxurious jewels created by G. Paulding Farnham for Tiffany & Co.’s exhibit at the 1900 Paris Exhibition Universelle. His use of indigenous American resources, like the Montana sapphires in this brooch, are a prime example of one of the five main themes of the exhibition: Nationalism. It also represents the rich history of Tiffany & Co., as well as the sensuous and organic style of the Art Nouveau period and the naturalistic rendering characteristic of the Aesthetic style of the late 1800s. As with this jeweled wonder, each of the other 200 pieces showcased in the exhibition fit within one or more of the exhibition’s five main themes: Style, Historicism, Cross-Culturalism, Nationalism, and Technology.

New Orleans visitors and residents can “relive the sense of discovery and energy of the world’s fairs” at NOMA from now until August 4, 2013 {cited}. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays, and general admission is $10 for adults. For details on hours and special pricing brackets, please visit NOMA’s website. If you can’t make a trip to The Big Easy, you’ll have one last opportunity to see the show when it opens at The Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, on September 21, 2013.

Tiffany & Co. creates special fine jewelry collection for new Great Gatsby film

Tiffany & Co. is making all the fine jewelry featured in the film!Fine jewelry and classic literature lovers should rejoice, as Tiffany & Co. recently announced its partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures and director Baz Luhrmann for his interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

The jeweler is providing the jewelry for the film, which takes place in the Jazz Age. The collection features extraordinary platinum-set diamonds and pearls which serve to complement the period clothing of the actors. The pairing gives the film a sense of luxury and grandeur, which is perfect for the penthouse parties and summer celebrations held at Gatsby's grand estate.

Tiffany & Co.'s designs defined the glamour of the time period, which is why the partnership comes naturally for the company. It looked to its vintage jewelry collections as inspiration for the new baubles. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of the book, was a customer himself, and Tiffany's first Design Director ran with the same type of crowd featured in the story.

The interior of Jay Gatsby's home was also furnished with Tiffany & Co. china, silverware and other accessories in the film.

If you want to get in on the feel of the 1920s, consider a vintage cocktail ring or a diamond pendant from the era!

Tiffany & Co. is opening a new NYC store!New York City already has two Tiffany & Co. stores, but the company is planning to open a third in September 2012.

According to Reuters, Tiffany & Co.'s recent large sale gains and an increase in NYC tourism fueled the decision to open up a third store in Manhattan's trendy SoHo district. The store's opening will take place around the same time as the company's 175th anniversary.

The fine jewelry store will be 7,000 square feet, which is much larger than the average planned for Tiffany & Co.'s new stores. Most of the more recently built venues are only about 3,500 to 4,000 square feet.

The store on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue is 45,500 square feet and has accounted for 8 percent of Tiffany & Co.'s total sales in 2010, according to the news source. The other NYC store location is in the Wall Street area and there are currently 98 other Tiffany & Co. stores operating in the U.S.

Tiffany & Co. using technology to promote diamond engagement rings

No matter the business, these days, it’s a good idea to have an online presence to promote one’s products or services. Iconic American jeweler Tiffany & Co. is doing just that, as it recently introduced a new website and a smartphone app for lovers everywhere looking for the perfect diamond engagement ring.

“Tiffany has long been a major presence at engagements and weddings, and now we’ve built that presence online with love stories and a whole world of romantic possibilities,” explained Tiffany and Co.’s chief marketing officer, Caroline Naggiar. The website and app go hand-in-hand, offering advice for lovebirds and sharing stories from other couples – Tiffany’s is, after all, an expert on the subject, having been the go-to jeweler for 175 years.

Another component for the smartphone app is its ring finder guide, designed to help couples choose the perfect diamond engagement ring in the palm of their hand. Users have the option of being able to view the baubles from different angles and even on different hand models, according to Ubergizmo. They can also share their choice on Facebook or send their pick to a Tiffanny’s diamond consultant if they intend on purchasing the gem.

Tiffany & Co posting positive returns from diamonds and engagement rings

Tiffany, the leading jeweler for diamond engagement rings posted positive earnings for the quarter. If there's one company that's synonymous with diamond engagement rings, it's Tiffany & Co. The jeweler, having been around for well over a century, is the go-to boutique for couples who are planning on symbolizing their love for each other with some sparkle. And it seems that the brand is not slowing down, as it recently posted strong positive earnings for the first quarter of the year.

According to the company, its net sales soared 20 percent from last year to $761 million in the first quarter. This includes sales from the 232 stores all over the world as well as from its online store. In America alone, Tiffany & Co's sales of its diamond engagement rings and other baubles increased to $374.7 million. The highest jump in sales was in the Asia-Pacific region, posting a 37 percent increase last year.

This is good news for the company, especially after a struggling economic climate in which industries that produce luxury goods like gorgeous diamond engagement rings are the first to be affected.

Tiffany & Co inspired by twisted vintage jewelry for its new collection

Tiffany & Co were inspired by vintage jewelry to create twisted jewelry.Tiffany & Co has been known as one of the the premiere American jewelers for over a century – its fashion-forward jewelry is coveted by women around the world, from famous celebrities like Natalie Portman to regular folks looking for something special and dazzling. For its new collection, the company decided to look to the past, giving a literal twist to vintage jewelry pieces.

The craft of hand-twisting metal wires to create an interesting spiral motif has been done for generations, and Tiffany & Co is updating the look for the modern woman. According to the company, the Tiffany Twist "[is] a new collection that turns 18 karat gold and sterling silver into jewelry of chic simplicity."

The line includes a twisted bow pendant suspended on a long chain, complementing a wide array of ensembles. Additionally, twisted bangles are available for those who would like to make a statement with stacked pieces of jewelry. As an update on those classic vintage earrings, the company also created twisted hoops in two sizes.

Maria Sharapova will be rocking diamond earrings and her diamond engagement ring on the court.Tiffany & Co. is making sure that tennis star Maria Sharapova will be all blinged out on the court during the French Open.

According to Yahoo, the player will be showcasing a gorgeous pair of diamond earrings worth $3,200 as a part of her contract with the jeweler. The dangling baubles, which resemble beautiful vintage earrings, are composed of rose-cut diamonds set in platinum in a cobblestone design.

"These earrings sparkle with every movement and they are so lightweight, which makes them perfect to wear on court," Sharapova said in a statement. Tiffany & Co. is hoping that other fabulous women just like the pro will notice the sparklers and hurry to the nearest store.

Of course, these earrings aren't the only things that will be blinding competitors on the court. Last year, NBA player Sasha Vujacic, who plays for the New Jersey Nets, proposed to the tennis star and gifted her with a gargantuan 8-carat cushion-cut diamond engagement ring, according to Us magazine. The price tag? A cool $250,000.
