Pear-Cut Diamond Engagement Ring Another beautiful pear-shaped engagement ring hit the news this week. On February 21, 2014, McLaren Mercedes announced the engagement of their top driver, Jenson Button, to model Jessica Michibata. According to reports, the Formula 1 racer proposed with a gorgeous pear-shaped diamond ring on Valentine's Day. The public's first view of the ring came at the F1 Testing event in Bahrain this past weekend. Ms. Michibata wears the tip of her pear-shaped diamond facing away from her hand. As per usual, the large diamond is secured by five prongs, the fifth protecting the tip from chipping. Two pear-shaped accent stones flank either side of the large center stone, and the thin band appears to be platinum paved in diamonds. The couple have been dating seriously for the past five years. They met in 2008 in Tokyo at a bar, though Mr. Button's initial advances were rebuffed by a wary Jessica, who feared he was a womanizer. And it's no wonder, since the press has hailed him as Britain's playboy Formula 1 racer since his debut in 2000. His raucous lifestyle ended when Jessica finally agreed to stand by his side eight months after they met. After 2-1/2 years together, the pressures of racing life placed a strain on their relationship. They took a break from each other for a short time, but reunited in time to compete in the Blenheim Triathlon in June 2011.
