Tiffany & Co. is opening a new fine jewelry store in New York City

Tiffany & Co. is opening a new NYC store!New York City already has two Tiffany & Co. stores, but the company is planning to open a third in September 2012.

According to Reuters, Tiffany & Co.'s recent large sale gains and an increase in NYC tourism fueled the decision to open up a third store in Manhattan's trendy SoHo district. The store's opening will take place around the same time as the company's 175th anniversary.

The fine jewelry store will be 7,000 square feet, which is much larger than the average planned for Tiffany & Co.'s new stores. Most of the more recently built venues are only about 3,500 to 4,000 square feet.

The store on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue is 45,500 square feet and has accounted for 8 percent of Tiffany & Co.'s total sales in 2010, according to the news source. The other NYC store location is in the Wall Street area and there are currently 98 other Tiffany & Co. stores operating in the U.S.

If you can't wait until 2012 to check out the new store, consider opting for a vintage Tiffany & Co. piece, like a diamond wedding band or a vintage gold watch.

Dancing With the Stars’ Kristin Cavallari returned diamond engagement ring

Kristin Cavallari returned her diamond engagement ring!

Kristin Cavallari, former star of The Hills and current member of the cast of Dancing With the Stars, is rumored to be back on speaking terms with her ex-fiance, Jay Cutler, whom she returned her engagement ring to.

Cutler, who plays in the NFL on the Chicago Bears, called off their engagement just days after the engagement party back in July. According to the Daily Mail, a source close to the couple asserted that the relationship happened too fast at the beginning and that the couple is now figuring things out after spending time away from each other.

Cavallari was reportedly devastated by the break-up, and promptly returned the 5.2 carat diamond engagement ring back to Cutler. She was said to be hoping to recover from the heartbreak during her Dancing With the Stars stint.

It's always a good move to offer to return a diamond engagement ring if the relationship ends before or after the wedding – regardless of who ended it. Even if you have to give up the engagement ring, there's always plenty of time to save up and purchase a stunning vintage cocktail ring or a pair of dazzling estate earrings for yourself!

Rules for fine jewelry in the workplace

Your jewelry should be subtle in the workplace! You know that baubles and other vintage accessories are perfect for spicing up any outfit, but that doesn't mean you're free to go wild with statement pieces at work. Unless you're in a creative field like design or fashion, it's best to go with subtle choices that don't overshadow you.

Savvymiss.com suggests steering clear of fine jewelry that makes noise or is distracting. Anything that would make clients or coworkers look at your jewelry instead of your face isn't the best option. Instead of an armful of jangling bracelets, choose just one bold piece, like a vintage cuff. Rather than long, dangling earrings, pick out a simple yet elegant pair of estate earrings.

While chunky cocktail rings are in style, it's best to stick with your wedding rings (if you have them) and one other subtle ring at work. Larger stones are best reserved for the weekend or after work occasions.

Necklaces are usually okay, as long as you don't wear long pieces that could get stuck in your desk drawers. If you're wearing a bold one, make sure the rest of your baubles are relatively understated. Basically, if you need to think twice about wearing a piece of vintage jewelry to work, don't.

Add a black diamond piece to your fine jewelry collection

Black diamonds go with everything!Diamonds are always in style, no matter what kind of setting they're placed in. However, sometimes clear ice isn't unique enough to show off your fashion sense. If you've ever found yourself lusting after a bold vintage cocktail ring to take your outfit to the next level, you may want to try a bauble that incorporates a different color diamond.

Blue, pink and yellow are nice and all, but they don't always go with everything. That's why black diamonds are the perfect choice for when you want something more exciting that will pair with any ensemble. Black diamonds can complement any man or woman's style in the form of wedding bands and engagement rings, as well as in necklaces, rings and earrings.

Next time you're looking for a vintage piece of jewelry to wear with any outfit, pick up something with a black diamond. Even if it has a pattern of alternating black and white diamonds, the effect will be anything but ordinary.

Even Kim Kardashian takes her diamond engagement ring off

Sometimes you're better off not wearing your fine jewels!Kim Kardashian is the type of person who seems to wake up glamorous, which is why it may come as a surprise that she often takes her fine jewelry off. People magazine recently reported that Kim admits to shedding her baubles when she sleeps and works out – despite her love of jewelry.

Taking off your diamond engagement ring and other antique pieces of jewelry is a good idea, even if it means you have to sacrifice a little bling at the gym or in the bedroom. You don't want to find yourself in a situation where your favorite jewels get lost or damaged.

Not only could your vintage engagement ring fall off and get stuck in the treadmill, but it could become grimy and lose its luster. Next time you're ready to exercise, store your fine jewelry in a place where you can easily find it – whether it's in a zipped purse pocket or at home in your jewelry box.

The same goes for fine jewels you want to take off at bedtime. It's not always comfortable sleeping with a dazzling gem on your finger or glamorous studs in your ears, so store them in a safe place where you won't be likely to misplace them.

Victoria Beckham to get Liz Taylor’s collection of fine jewelry?

Will David Beckham win Liz Taylor's jewels at auction?Elizabeth Taylor's fine jewelry collection is scheduled to be auctioned at Christie's New York auction house on December 13 and 14. The collection features iconic antique and vintage jewelry worth an estimated $30 million, most of which were given to Taylor by her husbands.

According to Gather.com, rumor has it that David Beckham is planning to purchase the jewels for his wife, Victoria Beckham. He is reportedly prepared to pay 2.9 million pounds for the collection of jewelry, which would not only make Victoria happy, but would add to their personal wealth.

Ever since David and Victoria welcomed their fourth child, Harper, David has reportedly felt closer to his wife and wants to demonstrate his love by giving her the most impressive jewelry collection possible. Lucky for her!

The proceeds from the auction are being given to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which makes the sale even more special. While Beckham may eventually be outbid, there's no question the famous baubles would make a wonderful lifelong gift.

Yellow gold engagement rings and wedding bands are back in style

Yellow gold is back in style! You may have noticed that the wedding band and engagement ring trends lately have been all about white metals like platinum and white gold. However, according to WatchShop.com, fine jewelry featuring yellow gold is becoming more popular.

The increase in demand for yellow gold jewelry may be related to the rising cost of gold, which is making the baubles more valuable and sought after. Another potential reason for its rising popularity is the fact that warm colored jewelry goes better with vintage dresses and fashion, which has become very trendy lately. Ensembles inspired by the 1940s and 50s are well matched with yellow gold jewelry.

If you're into antique, vintage or estate jewelery and have plenty of vintage clothing to wear as a backdrop, a yellow gold vintage engagement ring, wedding band or even cocktail ring could be exactly what you're looking for. Since yellow gold was popular in the past, there are plenty of options available when you're looking for vintage or estate baubles. Just keep in mind which cut of diamond you prefer, then start searching for the yellow gold ring of your dreams!

Good news for ladies looking forward to a diamond engagement ring

Ladies, feel free to choose your own diamond engagement ring! It's not really something you want to think about, but have you ever considered what would happen if your man decided to buy you a diamond engagement ring on his own without having any idea about your taste preferences?

Luckily, Jeweller Magazine recently reported that more brides-to-be are tagging along with their fiances to look at engagement rings. A jeweler told the news source that most men who go in alone end up coming back to re-size the ring or make changes, which is why it makes more sense to make the ring buying process a joint effort.

Couples' access to jewelry information online has also increased the likelihood that a woman will discuss her tastes with her man before he goes shopping. With more knowledge, you and your fiance can walk into a store or make an online purchase knowing exactly what you want.

Next time you're ogling over that vintage engagement ring, call your man over to take a look. He'll appreciate your help and may even invite you to go shopping with him to pick it out!
