Choose a green engagement ring for your eco-conscious fianc

antique engagement rings are green too!Being green may be seen as a trend by some, but for others, living an environmentally-conscious lifestyle is who they are. If you and your fiancée are both eco-friendly individuals, your wedding will probably reflect how you live.

Luckily, many establishments are starting to cater to individuals who are sustainably minded. For a beautiful cake, look for a baker that uses organic and fair-trade products. Additionally, your non-traditional fiancée might want to have a custom-made wedding dress made from sustainable fabric.

At the same time, what you are going to give her for an engagement ring should also be a representation of your sustainable lifestyle. Look for an antique engagement ring because these baubles don't contain conflict diamonds. Purchasing an antique engagement ring is also a form of recycling because no new natural materials were used to create the piece.

Whichever design you choose, your future bride will be sure to appreciate your efforts in finding her the perfect green engagement ring that she can proudly wear without guilt.

Should you accept that heirloom antique engagement ring?

Is an heirloom vintage engagement ring may not be your type, so what do you do?The night is going so well – you and your loved one are dining in a romantic restaurant – when he suddenly takes out a little box and pops the question. He opens up the box only to reveal an antique engagement ring that, unfortunately, really isn't your type. You want to say "yes!", but the bauble just isn't your style, so what do you do?

Most women know that the look of the diamond wouldn't dictate their answer, but it's alright to feel disappointed by your man's choice of ring. You'll also need to be careful that you don't insult a family heirloom and inadvertently ruin your big moment.

If you just can't get over the look of the bauble, simply have the piece customized. Maybe you can add some extra bling by having some extra pave diamonds added.

If you want to keep the authenticity of the piece, let the ring be and get the sparkle on your wedding band instead.

Choose an antique engagement ring for a personalized look

For a personalized look, choose a vintage engagement ring. Many would-be brides prefer customized diamond engagement rings that are personalized and made just for them. Unfortunately, creating a ring from scratch could be quite expensive. So what are some affordable alternatives for a personalize look? If you broaden your choices, you might just fall in love with a beautiful antique engagement ring.

Most antique engagement rings may not necessarily be one-of-a-kind, but since they're from a past era, the chances of you seeing another person with the same ring are slim. At the same time, these baubles come in an assortment of styles from the different jewelry periods.

Looking for a ring that evokes the romanticism of the past? Choose a bauble from the Victorian period. How about an antique engagement ring that's a little bit more structured and geometric? A gem from the Art Deco Era – a time where emerald-cut diamonds became very popular – may just be the perfect match for you.

Besides the varying style aesthetics, antique engagement rings are also rich in history. If you choose a vintage engagement ring, you're adding your love story to a long line of unions symbolized by the beautiful bauble.

Is a pear-cut diamond engagement ring your style?

a pear-cut diamond is a special kinf of cut.If you've been shopping around for diamond engagement rings, one particular cut may have caught your eye – the pear cut.

The pear cut diamond, as the name implies, is a diamond cut in the shape of a pear or a teardrop. According to Buying a Loose Diamond, this particular type of cut is a modification of the traditional round cut, but instead of having that 360 roundness to it, the diamond ends at a point. The news source adds that this cut is perhaps the most subjective kind, with the differences in shape and size of the diamond being a matter of personal taste.

A few of the world's largest diamonds are actually pear-shaped. The iconic Taylor-Burton Diamond, once owned by Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor, was a pear cut. The Cullinan I or the Star of Africa is the largest piece of diamond cut from the Cullinan – the largest rough diamond ever found – and it's also pear-shaped, according to Famous Diamonds.

The appeal of antique jewelry

What is the appeal of antique jewelry? There are many trends that we don't want to come back ever again, like maybe mullets and mom jeans! However, there are those that just keep coming back, either because of nostalgia or just because they simply look good on people. The bellbottoms, for example, is making its comeback once again. It could be due to the resurging '70s culture with TV shows and movies being remade, or it could simply be because these jeans are more flattering to the bodies of a broader range of people, than say, skinny jeans. The same goes with antique jewelry pieces – the wide selection of different designs from different eras of the past make them a recurring trend for fashionistas as well as inspiration for contemporary aesthetics. So what is the appeal of antique jewelry and why is the new generation embracing the designs of the past?

Vintage jewelry consists of beautiful timeless pieces of accessories that elevate the look of anyone who chooses to wear them. Think of elegant chandelier earrings and intricately designed necklaces studded with different gemstones, worn by royalties of the past – what is there not to like?! Of course, there are some pieces that not everyone might appreciate. A vintage brooch, for example, may not be everyone's cup of tea. At the same time, overly stylized baubles may not be a highly versatile piece and can only be worn during special events. However, antique jewelry comprises such a long period of time and many eras that an individual is bound to find a style that will fit their persona.

If you are into elaborate and romantic pieces, the Victorian period may just have the right pieces for you. Baubles made from intricate golden filigree and precious gemstones littered the era, reflecting the Queens penchant for all things pretty. For one-of-a-kind pieces that took inspiration from flora and fauna, baubles from the Art Nouveau period are exquisite and were great representations of the movement against mass produced jewelry. If you're more into sleek pieces with geometric patterns, vintage jewelry from the Art Deco era may just be what you are looking for.

Besides being just beautiful, the appeal of antique jewelry is its ability to transport you to a different time and place. The thrill of purchasing a vintage bauble is finding out about its past – who was it made for? When was it made? What was the story behind it? You become intrigued by the engravings and markings inside the gem, imagining the lovely lady who once wore it in a breathtaking gown as she waits for her lover, or maybe a flapper girl that paved the way for female empowerment in the early years of the twentieth century. Whatever story is attached to your jewelry, just being able to have a piece of the past is a thrilling feeling.

The comeback of antique jewelry has many designers clamoring to create contemporary designs with a vintage feel. Rose gold, popularly used during the Victorian period, is returning as the season's "it" metal, found on several celebrities on the red carpet. The element was seen on runways in different forms, from necklaces to cocktails rings studded with precious gemstones. At the same time, many fashionistas who are always in search of a personalized style opt to pair antique jewelry pieces with more contemporary baubles and modern apparel, creating a contrast that's appealing to many.

The appeal of antique jewelry is in its beauty and timelessness, without a doubt, so choose a piece that will reflect your personality and enhance the jewelry pieces that you already have.

Matching your antique engagement ring with contemporary pieces of jewelry

Match your antique engagement ring with the right accessories. If you happen to have received an antique engagement ring, you might be thinking about how hard it might be to match it with your other current pieces. As much as you love your ring, it could be quite tough to find the right style for it, but don't fret – this doesn't mean that you have to start dressing up like a Victorian lady just for your bling!

Actually, contrasting styles when it comes to jewelry is a trend that many fashionistas are currently sporting. It creates an interesting visual that will have onlookers coveting your style. For a modern twist, try this: Pair your antique engagement ring with pieces of both contemporary and vintage bracelets. The different textures and patterns will easily blend well with your ring and will create a look that merges the past and the present.

For another great contrast, wear structured pieces of apparel with vintage jewelry. That black blazer that you have can be a great canvas for a vintage brooch, a piece that will perfectly go with your antique engagement ring.

Man finds treasure trove full of Austrian antique jewelry in backyard

A treasure chest full of antique jewelry was recently found in Austria.Who knew that digging in your backyard could bring about a treasure chest full of priceless antiquities?

According to Austria's national antiquities department, the trove had more than 200 pieces of antique brooches, rings, gold-plated platters and other ornaments. Although specialists have yet to assign any form of monetary value to the precious pieces, they are believed to be about 650 years old. The Associated Press adds that the statement from the Federal Office for Memorials gave no other details about the pieces.

The office, however, described the ornaments as "one of the qualitatively most significant discoveries of medieval treasure in Austria."

Andreas K., the man who found the amazing pieces, told the weekly publication Profil that he found the trove in 2007 but did not report it until recently when he rediscovered it in his basement, the news outlet explains. He then posted some pictures online only to have collectors contacting him about the potential value of his collection.
